WICKHAM Market Flower Club
Report for our meeting dated Thursday 28th July 2022
June welcomed members, guests, and Mike to our meeting.
Orders can be placed now for next year’s Flower Arranger magazine although the price is yet to be confirmed. The annual Raffle for a free year’s subscription to our club, is starting tonight. On the Raffle table is a box where you need to put a £1 coin in an envelope with your name and telephone number on the outside, these can then be posted in the box. We will take details right up until the AGM when we will make the draw. You can have as many goes as you like to increase your chances.
Tickets for the November Open meeting are available from tonight. Priced at £5 for members and £10 for guests this reasonable price will get you a wonderful evening watching David Thompson, whose theme is “Let it Sparkle”. Tickets must be pre booked and paid for by contacting Sue Cotton on 07786942450. We will be having a Sales table and also a Craft stall as well as the usual Raffle.
Articles of interest are always welcomed for inclusion in our twice-yearly Newsletter. Please contact Mandy on m.13@btinternet.com or telephone 01728 748039 with anything you think may be of interest. What have you done over the summer? Have you got a super recipe you would like to share? is your garden looking good? Please let me have information and photos as soon as you are able.
Our AGM in September will again be an interesting evening. The Chairmans chosen charity this year was The Wickham Market 1st Responders. We are proud to be making a substantial donation to them at the AGM and also possibly having a demonstration and talk about how it all works.
Members are requested to bring along a plate of snack food for sharing at this meeting, we have never been let down by members with this. Just so you know June has already offered to bring the Twiglets. Thanks June.
Geraldine spoke at length about our clubs very urgent need for a Programme Secretary. The job needn’t mean being a committee member, but it will mean having regular contact with us either before or at meetings. This can be by e-mail or telephone. The job can be undertaken by two people, and you are assured of all the help needed to take on the position. We have planned demonstrator/speaker bookings already sorted out for 2023 so you won’t be thrown in at the deep end. We are such a friendly club. We have a good number of members although always accepting of more, we have a solid bank balance through our Treasurers careful management. However, members were warned that without a Programme Secretary we cannot continue. The club will have to close. Every current committee member has a responsibility already and is not able to take on further duties. Please please do pay heed to this. Do you want our club to continue? Are you, or someone you know able to help us? Please contact either June Allum on 01394 384803, Carol Wiseman on 01394 383666 or Sue Cotton on 07786 942450 to discuss or for more information.
The Single stem was awarded to Pearl Crane for a beautiful rose from her garden. The winner of the Novice competition was Jan Richardson and the Advanced winner was Sue Cotton. Well done to you all.
Our demonstrator for the evening was introduced. Crystal Dyball with a “Floral Cocktail”. The stage was beginning to resemble a smart Cocktail Lounge before Crystal even started to do her arrangements. Several inviting cocktail boards suggesting this was the place to visit for a sumptuous drink. She proceeded to make up her floral designs, each representing a cocktail drink. Using a multitude of beautiful flowers and foliage including Ferns, Fats Hedera, Gladioli, Dahlias, Hydrangeas, Clematis, Spray Roses, Pink Gerberas and Calla Lilies to name but a few. Her laid-back Norfolk dialect and the stories of the newly built house and managing her garden had us all giggling and enthralled.
June gave the vote of thanks wishing all a safe journey home, a Happy August and looked forward to seeing us all again on Thursday September 22nd at the AGM. 6.30pm for 7pm start. In Wickham Market Village Hall. IP13 0HE.
