The Women's Tour came through Wickham Market - Wednesday 13th June 2018
Fantastic news again for Wickham Market. On Wednesday 13th June 2018 the Women's Tour returned again to Britain with a Grand Depart at Framlingham. We saw the riders racing towards Wickham Market covering the distance within 15 minutes.
When we had the Men's Tour Wickham Market the village was recognised for the way we supported the event winning an ward for the best village and our local shop Inspirations won the best window display competition.
We are very proud of the way the village again supported the Tour and the local BBC Radio station chose Wickham Market for their first broadcast point after the start in recognition of the association the village has with cycling.

Wickham Market - great for cyclists
There is a reason that the Men's Tour of Britain and the Women's Tour of Britain comes through Wickham Market
Suffolk is recognised as a primary destination for cycling, demonstrated by the return of international road cycling events such as the Tour of Britain races for both the men's and women's events.
When the tours have been hosted in Suffolk, Wickham Market has been a consistent choice for the route. Centrally located on excellent roads for road cycling the village is perfectly suited for cyclists and welcomes those on two wheels.
Wickham Market welcomes cyclists
From the very earliest records Wickham Market has been a focal point for travellers, a theme that exists today. Situated in the middle of the Suffolk Coast, Wickham Market is at the intersection of delightful secondary roads that are perfect for cycling. Situated just off the A12 it is easy to reach, although we certainly wouldn't recommend cycling to us on that road, particulary when superb scenic alternatives are available. Our cafes are frequently visited by cyclists, weekends and weekdays will see a collection of bikes and enthusiastic cyclists taking a break with coffee and cake. For local events and bike rides please visit our 'Cycle Wickham' website. Additional cycle routes can be found on the 'Discover Suffolk' website.
Serious single track cycling just 5 miles away from Wickham Market
Look hard enough and you will see a bike in the picture!
Wickham Market has some wonderful off road cycle routes all around the village, perfect for a relaxing ride around. But if you want to up the ante there are excellent marked routes nearby.
Rendlesham Forest has two trails: the Tang trail which is 6 miles and a gentle ride (with a shortcut to half it) through the forest. There is also a 10 mile route which covers various surfaces.
You can up the ante with the Viking Trail at Tunstall Forest classified as a red trail. This is a great 10 mile single track route, weaving through the forest. There is also a shortcut on this route if you need it. The Viking Trail offers a relaxed family ride at a steady speed but those with a higher level of skill can up the speed - it is an exhilarating experience to weave through the single track at speed - enjoy!
